Pioneering Capsule Endoscopy now available at Parkside
Dr Aftab Ala, Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist and Lt Col Patrick Connor, Consultant Gastroenterologist are offering Capsule Endoscopy to Patients on Parkside at Frimley Park Hospital.
This procedure can help determine the cause of gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bleeding or anaemia. The procedure involves the patient swallowing a capsule containing a tiny camera which captures images of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract as it travels through the body and transmits images to a computer to be viewed and a diagnosis made.
Capsule Endoscopy has revolutionised the way physicians detect and diagnose diseases of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract including Crohn’s disease, coeliac disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), small bowel tumours and NSAID-related injuries. Before Capsule Endoscopy, many of these disorders went undiagnosed or were treated symptomatically.
Recently published clinical data confirms that Capsule Endoscopy provides a substantially improved level of visual imaging for early detection and diagnosis of gastrointestinal tract diseases. More than 500,000 patients around the world are benefiting from this exam.
