The Laser in use The Laser in use

Mr Neil Barber

 Consultant Urological Surgeon

Photoselective Vaporisation of the Prostate (PVP) using the Greenlight PV laser system is set to become an increasingly attractive alternative to the standard transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in the surgical management of symptomatic prostate disease.

The unique properties of this laser treatment mean equivalent improvements in symptoms to TURP but with a much faster recovery from the procedure.

The particular benefits of PVP include:

    • Discharge from hospital either the same day or the day after the operation.
    • Significantly lower risk of side effects on sexual function.
    • The potential of a catheterless procedure i.e no need for a drainage tube
    • A rapid return to normal activity

Having originally pioneered the introduction of this exciting new treatment to the UK in 2002, Mr Neil Barber, Consultant Urological Surgeon, has now brought Greenlight PVP to The Parkside Suite at Frimley Park Hospital.
